From December on, "Arthur Rubinstein The Complete Album Collection" will be the world's biggest CD edition for a solo artist according to Guinness World Records (TM). It features all the legendary pianist's issued recordings made by RCA Victor between 1940 and 1976, and includes one LP issued on the DECCA label in 1978. The collection also includes the recordings Rubinstein made in England for the English label His Master's Voice (HMV) between 1928 and 1940, most of which were released in the United States by RCA on its Victor label. The collection includes complete studio and live performances, solo, concerto and chamber music repertoire in reproductions of original LP sleeves and labels, the earlier recordings, initially released on 78-rpm discs, appear in three sets with 14 CDs in the edition.

The bonus CDs in this edition (CDs 140-142) contain recordings of his legendary 1961 cycle of ten concerts at New York's Carnegie Hall. They include four works that Rubinstein had never before committed to disc plus two others that represent brand-new additions to his RCA discography.

This edition also boasts the finest sound quality ever bestowed on Arthur Rubinstein's complete recordings. The masters for the principal works in the collection come from the series of Living Stereo SACDs and Japanese XRCDs. All the other recordings are based on masters from the Rubinstein Collection of 1999, technically and sonically refurbished for this edition. In cases where the desired results could not be obtained, Sony Classical has gone back to the original analogue tapes.

The 164-page full-colored hardcover book in landscape format includes new liner notes by Rubinstein biographer Harvey Sachs, photos shot or selected by Arthur Rubinstein's daughter Eva Rubinstein, an essay about the legendary 1961 Carnegie Hall concerts, complete discography in alphabetical and chronological order featuring 78s, 45s and LPs and track listings with complete discographical notes, producer names and matrix nos.

The two bonus DVDs are "Rubinstein Remembered", a documentary tracing the great pianist's life from his origins in Łódź, Poland, through his final concert there in 1975, with interviews from family and friends, newsreels, home movies, TV interviews and performance footage. Narrated by Rubinstein's son John Rubinstein and produced by Peter Rosen and the "The Benefit Recital for Israel 1976" recorded at Ambassador College, Pasadena, California on Jan 15, 1975 featuring works by Beethoven, Schumann, Debussy, Chopin and Mendelssohn.

The "Arthur Rubinstein Complete Album Collection" consists almost entirely of reproductions of vinyl LPs in their original sleeves. The few exceptions that were only released on CD retain their original CD cover. Thus for the first time ever, music lovers have the opportunity of discovering every single one of Rubinstein's original albums in a single issue.

Home Theater Package - Bring the Full Experience Home

!: Home Theater Package - Bring the Full Experience Home

When it comes to the home theater package, there are a lot of opinions. Some purists insist that these packages are strictly referring to sound system components. Yet others insist that the reference applies to all aspects that give you a theater-like experience at your own house. Let's explore the various options and then you can decide for yourself!

For those people focused on sound alone, there are systems ranging from tens of dollars all the way to thousands of dollars. The choices are endless. The basic home theater package starts with a 5.1 channel speaker and subwoofer set. With this set you are likely to receive a product that produces decent digital sound with a thumping bass, a central speaker, 2 surround speakers and 2 front speakers. Now, on the other end of the spectrum of speaker systems; we have a high end set that includes two 12 "350 watt subwoofers (the bass ought to bring the house down with those bad boys), a center speaker, surround sound speakers, 2 pole 4 front speakers and acoustic controls to optimize performance. Sounds like everything you could possibly need, right?

Wait just a minute! Where is the rest of the home theater package? What do I mean by ' the rest ', you ask? Well, as some would have it, the set-up is not complete without the sofa and it's built-in cup holders, 108 "LCD screen HDTV (or maybe even a high quality projector and motorized projector screen), iPod docking station, multi-function equalizer, Blu-Ray player, amplifier and game system.

Or maybe you are more of a middle of the road type. No extremes foryou. A nice 5 speaker digital sound system, a decent television and a DVD player will satisfy your needs. What is your vision of the perfect setup?

The best way to decide what your needs are when it comes to choosing a system, is to look at what you typically enjoy for entertainment. Are you a fan of music and hardly ever have your mp3 more than an arm's length away? Or would you rather kick back and watch a movie? Look to what you enjoy to point you in the right direction for purchasing your home theater package.

After you've picked out the specific elements you want, you can go online or to a local electronics store to find what you are looking for. Retailers will be happy to help you select the right system for your needs. Before you whip out the plastic though, considerhaving the retailer install your system if they offer that service. If you have never tried to hook up complex setup like this before, know that it can become confusing quite quickly. There are many wires and ports. You could have just one wire in the wrong place and then spend hours trying to figure what is hooked up wrong. For a few extra dollars, someone else can come and get the job done for you in little to no time.

Whatever you choose, make the decision based on your favorite hobbies and you're sure to have the home theater package that suits you best. That's what makes it perfect.

Theater vs DVD - Go Out Or Stay Home?

!: Theater vs DVD - Go Out Or Stay Home?

Watching a movie is a great way to escape reality for a few hours. Whether it is a drama that requires your full attention or a comedy that has you laughing the entire time, movies have been and will continue to be a great hobby/time waster/escape for almost anyone. While watching movies in a theater has its advantages spending time at home watching DVDs is overall the better experience.

The movie theater does have one huge advantage over home viewing, the gigantic projection screen and the amazing surround sound speakers. However that is generally where the advantages of the theater end. Purchasing a big HD television is becoming a much less expensive endeavor than it used to be and surround sound these days is pretty cheap as well. Even without these luxury items however the movie viewing experience at home more than makes up for its lack of technical superiority with other much more pleasant advantages.

First and foremost is the lack of strange moviegoers. Everyone has sat in front of someone who kicks the seat or sat next to the teenager on their cell phone. At home this is not an issue. If someone in the house is being loud feel free to yell at them to quiet them down. Most likely however that would not be an issue unless you live with total strangers however.

Another great advantage of the home theater is the power of control. Bathroom and snack breaks are not an issue when you can simply pause the movie and resume watching when you get back. Also if you want to see that amazing car chase scene again then feel free to simply hit the back button on your remote and watch it again!

An issue that has popped up semi-recently with movie theaters is the cost now associated with them. A movie ticket at my local theater costs . Now add another one for my girlfriend plus a few boxes of candy and drinks and all of a sudden I have spent nearly for two hours of entertainment. Now admittedly buying a DVD would cost about but renting one would cost about the same price as that box of Junior Mints in the theater.

Movie theaters also have a strict no talking policy. This is a necessity of course to watch a movie in the theater and when spending the above amount of money it is clear that this policy is a good one. However some of the best movie watching experiences that I have had involved a group of friends watching a comedy (something like Wedding Crashers or Superbad) and just having a great time that involved a lot of talking and quoting of movie lines. Obviously in a theater this would be frowned upon.

So despite the lack of a giant projection screen and surround sound speakers watching a DVD at home is a much more favorable experience than going to the theater. Of course there are some movies that almost require you (or at least require me) to see them the day they are released, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for example, but there are plenty of movies that are not worth the cost or patience it would take to see them in the theater.
